PTA asked to explain ongoing social media disruption – HUM News

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology has demanded an explanation from Hafiz Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), regarding the current nationwide social media disruption.

Chaired by Amin ul Haque, the committee has requested Rehman to clarify the reasons behind the interruption in social media services. Additionally, the committee is seeking information on the widespread internet service outages and deteriorating mobile signals.

According to Business Recorder, the Attorney General of Pakistan has also been invited to the committee’s meeting, which is scheduled for August 21 at the Parliament House.

Currently, internet services are experiencing a nationwide outage, with the specific cause of the disruption still unidentified.

The ongoing social media disruption has been a source of frustration for many Pakistanis. Initially, X (formerly Twitter) was inaccessible, prompting users to rely on VPNs, which proved to be intermittently effective.

Following this, Meta platforms, including WhatsApp and Instagram, began experiencing functionality issues. This series of disruptions has left users bewildered about the nature and extent of the problem.
