ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued a written decision regarding the “compassionate release” plea of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, as announced by Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan.
The written order follows a previous hearing on the matter.

During the proceedings, the Attorney General informed the court that the government plans to file a separate mercy plea for Dr Siddiqui.
The development coincides with discussions expected to occur at an upcoming United Nations meeting, where the United States govemrent will also be involved.

The Attorney General also provided updates on the ongoing efforts related to a prisoner exchange agreement with the US. He stated that almost three weeks were needed to finalise the details of the agreement.
Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan scheduled the next hearing for the case on October 18, allowing time for the necessary preparations and discussions to take place.

Dr Aafia Siddiqui is a Pakistani neuroscientist imprisoned by the United States govemrent for decades. A Harvard graduate, Siddiqui has become a focal point of legal and diplomatic discussions since her conviction.
