AJK schools closed indefinitely as Pak-India tensions escalate – HUM News


MUZAFFARABAD/LAHORE: The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has ordered the indefinite closure of all schools — both public and private — amid rising tensions due to Indian aggression along the Line of Control LoC).

According to a notification issued by the AJK Elementary and Secondary Education Secretary, the decision was taken in view of the security situation.

The department directed the administration of all schools under its jurisdiction — both public and private — to suspend educational activities until further orders.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has denied reports suggesting an extension in school holidays.

On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had announced the closure of all educational institutions including schools and colleges in the province in light of the security situation emerged after India launched attack on Pakistan’s territory.

The Islamabad district administration had also notified the closure of all educational institutions including public and private schools within the jurisdiction of Islamabad.

According to the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), India carried out 24 cowardly attacks at six different locations in Azad Jammu and Kashmir as well as in Punjab, resulting in the martyrdom of eight Pakistanis and injuries to 35 others.

Addressing a press conference on the war-like situation, the DG ISPR had said that India launched unprovoked and cowardly attacks at six sites.

Following the Indian aggression, Pakistan gave a vivid response, taking down five aircrafts of Indian air forces as well as a drone.

In her statement to media, Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari has clarified that schools will remain open across Punjab, carrying out educational activities as usual.

“The notification circulating on social media regarding extended school holidays is fake,” she said, hinting at the possibilities of changes to the decision based on the prevailing situation.
