Actor Neetu Chandra has taken legal action against rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh, accusing him of objectifying women in his latest song, Maniac. She has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court, demanding a ban on what she describes as “vulgar songs.”
According to PTI, the PIL also names other artists involved in the song, including lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi. The case is expected to be heard later this month. The petition states, “Women should never make the mistake of treating anyone as an object because insulting a woman has always resulted in painful consequences.”
In an interview with India TV, Neetu expressed concerns about the impact of such songs on women, particularly in Bihar. She said, “Vulgar Bhojpuri and Hindi songs are making it difficult for school and college-going girls to walk on the streets without feeling uncomfortable. Many women avoid watching television at home due to such content.”
Chandra further urged the government to take action, saying, “If a government can ban liquor to protect women from their drunken husbands, why can’t it ban these vulgar songs?”
Honey Singh’s Maniac, released on February 22 under T-Series, features Esha Gupta and has already garnered over 70 million views on YouTube.
