WILLIAMSPORT: Republican vice presidential nominee senator James David Vance finally addressed the subject of Trump’s 2020 election loss on Wednesday, after side-stepping the topic for weeks.
“Did Donald Trump lose the election? Not by the words that I would use,” said senator Vance in response to a reporter prodding him for an answer to the question of whether the nominee believed Trump lost in 2020.
It has been a contentious issue for the Republican nominee, made worse by the recent vice presidential debate, which saw moderators ask him in front of millions of Americans whether his running mate Trump lost in 2020.
His previous statements, in which he expressed he would not have certified the last presidential election, asking states to submit alternative electors, drew a fair amount of criticism. It ended up culminating in a question at the debate earlier in October, where CBS moderators asked whether Vance would dispute the election were he and Trump to lose.
VANCE DID NOT ANSWER
He sidestepped the question, stating he was looking toward the future. Vance did the same when asked directly by Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, saying that he’s “focused on the future,” a response that Walz called a “damning non-answer.”

The VP nominee backtracked on Wednesday, saying that he’s “answered this question directly a million times” before adding that he things “there are serious problems in 2020.”
The ‘problems’ Vance refers to are claims that the 2020 election results were fraudulent, with the alleged foul play revolving around voter fraud. However, the only evidence of any attempts at voter fraud come from Trump’s own campaign.
A 165-page motion published following a probe by Jack Smith, the special counsel investigating Trump’s alleged attempts to undermine election results in 2020, revealed evidence that Trump officials targeting polling centres themselves.
In one particular case, a Trump campaign employee was told by a colleague at a Detroit polling centre that the vote results were “right”, to which he responded, “find a reason it isn’t.” Other evidence revealed that Trump formed the plan to dispute the election after advisors informed him that the election would be a close contest, well before election night.

HARRIS RESPONSE
The Kamala Harris campaign responded swiftly, stating that Vance “finally admitted he denies the 2020 election results.”
They went on to reiterate Walz’s previous statements, saying that “Donald Trump selected Vance for this exact reason – he knows Vance will be a loyal soldier in Trump’s pursuit for absolute, unchecked, limitless power.”
