US vetoes yet another UNSC resolution calling for unconditional ceasefire in Gaza – HUM News

NEW YORK: The United States (US) recently vetoed a resolution in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that called for unconditional ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostage held by Hamas.

The US government argued that the resolution failed to explicitly link the release of hostages to the ceasefire. The veto power state deemed it a ‘critical’ component of any potential agreement.

The resolution had garnered support from several member states. It aimed to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where violence has escalated to humanitarian crisis. Over 47,000 Palestinians, including 15,000 children have been brutally killed by Israel.

The enclave has been reduced to smithereens due to constant Israeli bombardment.

In response to the US veto, Hamas condemned the decision, stating that no hostages would be released until Israeli atrocities in Gaza came to an end.

The group declared US action as indicative of its complicity in the massacre against Palestinians
