Indian woman detained for assaulting 8-year-old boy

UTTAR PRADESH: Days after the school renaming fiasco, India’s Uttar Pradesh has found another spot on the headlines. This time it is about a woman who assaulted a young boy because he showed fear of woman’s dog.

Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and detained a woman for allegedly dragging and assaulting an 8-year-old boy inside an elevator. The incident took place at the 12th Avenue of Gaur City 2 Society of Greater Noida West, Gautam Buddha Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, northern India, on February 19.

The video footage from the elevator camera shows a woman entering the lift with her pet dog, where the child is already present. Upon spotting the dog, the boy appears fearful and panicked. He pleads with the woman, folding his hands, and asking her not to bring the canine inside.

However, the woman ignores his requests and instead directs him to leave the lift while selecting her floor. As the dog enters, the frightened child moves toward the lift’s door. Moments later, the woman forcefully pushes and drags him out.

A few seconds after the doors close, the boy runs back into the lift, frantically pressing the close-door button. He is visibly distressed and crying inside the elevator.

According to reports, the boy, a resident of the society, was returning home from tuition when the incident took place. Witnesses allege that the woman deliberately removed the child from the lift to take him out of the CCTV camera’s range.

Some residents also claimed she had been involved in previous disputes over pet-related issues. Following the incident, angry residents gathered at the society’s gate late at night, raising slogans demanding action.
