Hajj 2025: Saudi Arabia launches cooling projects – HUM News

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has launched a wide-ranging development plan to improve the experience of Hajj 2025 pilgrims, focusing on comfort, safety, and smooth movement across all major sites — Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah.

The initiative includes the construction of shaded resting areas to help pilgrims cope with the intense summer heat.

Authorities have already shaded 50,000 square meters of pedestrian paths in Mina, while Arafat now features a cooling and shading system spread over 60,000 square meters.

Jabal Al Rahma has been equipped with mist fans and advanced canopies across 785 square meters to provide relief from high temperatures.

The measures were discussed during the inaugural Hajj 1446 AH committee meeting, chaired by Deputy Governor Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz.

Officials reviewed detailed preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage season, showing strong commitment to improving pilgrim services under the broader Vision 2030 reforms.

In Muzdalifah, Phase Two of the Holy Sites Path Project has enhanced accessibility and safety across 170,000 square meters. Resting zones covering 28,000 square meters have also been established along pilgrimage routes, giving pilgrims much-needed spaces to relax.

To tackle heat stress, a major project at Namira Mosque now covers 85,000 square meters and uses modern cooling technologies. In a further move toward environmental sustainability, the government has begun planting 10,000 trees across pilgrimage sites to increase shade and improve air quality.

Hydration points have also been upgraded, with 400 new water coolers installed. Emergency response has been boosted through the setup of 86 first aid centres at key locations. Additionally, 135 pressure tank sites have been initiated in Mina to support essential services such as water supply.

Saudi officials say these steps aim to ease the spiritual journey for millions of pilgrims, particularly under challenging weather conditions.
