WASHINGTON: FBI Director Kash Patel said Friday that the agency had thwarted a “potential terrorist attack” planned in the northern state of Michigan over Halloween weekend.
“This morning the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend,” Patel said in a post on X.

The FBI director said more details about the alleged plot would be released later.
In a post on Facebook, the police department in Dearborn, a city west of Detroit, said the FBI had conducted operations in Dearborn early Friday.
“We want to assure our residents that there is no threat to the community at this time,” it said.
On the other hand, CNN report reported that the FBI Detroit field office confirmed they were present in the cities of Dearborn and Inkster this morning conducting law enforcement activities.”
“There is no current threat to public safety,” a spokesperson Jordan Hall told CNN.
Separately, a federal law enforcement source told NBC News that the FBI arrests took place in Dearborn and Inkster, cities outside of Detroit.
There were also some unconfirmed social media posts with videos showing the FBI operatives entering a house while gunshots could also being heard.
Dearborn borders Detroit, about 11 kilometres west of downtown. Inkster is a suburb located about 19 kilometres west of downtown Detroit.
