NAIROBI: A light plane carrying foreign tourists from Hungary and Germany crashed in Kenya on Tuesday, killing all 11 people on board, authorities confirmed.
According to Mombasa Air Safari, the airline operating the flight, the aircraft had 10 passengers — eight Hungarians and two Germans — along with a Kenyan pilot.
“Sadly, there are no survivors,” the airline said in a statement.
The Civil Aviation Authority said the crash occurred near Kwale, along Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast, at around 8:30am local time (5:30am GMT).
A regional police commander told state-run Kenya Broadcasting Corporation that all those on board were tourists.
Citizen TV reported that the bodies of the passengers had been burned beyond recognition.
Officials said the aircraft was en route from the coastal town of Diani to Kichwa Tembo, a popular tourist destination in the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Earlier, a cargo plane arriving from Dubai crash-landed at Hong Kong International Airport, veering off the runway and plunging into the sea, killing two ground personnel on the spot.
The aircraft, operating as Emirates SkyCargo flight EK9788 and flown by Turkish carrier AirACT, was attempting to land at approximately 3:50am local time when it lost control on the newly opened third runway. According to airport authorities, the Boeing 747 freighter broke through perimeter fencing and struck an airport patrol vehicle, pushing it into the water.
