California: Meta has announced that it will soon launch a new subscription model, allowing users to enjoy social networking sites Facebook and Instagram without advertisements by paying a monthly fee.

The Meta Company said that in the coming weeks the service will be launched in the UK, while for other users it would take a little time.

Users accessing the platforms via the web will need to pay £2.99 per month, while mobile users (of all kinds) will be charged £3.99 per month, the company confirmed.

However, customers opting for no subscription will still be able to use the platforms with zero cost, but they will continue to see advertisements.

The company added that for the subscribers there would be any video ads on neither their screen nor their personal data will be used for advertising purposes. In general, this service is being rolled out gradually but as told earlier it remains limited to the UK at the moment.

The move comes in response to hiking regulatory pressure in Europe, where authorities concerned are calling for more transparency regarding the use of the user data and advertising systems.

It may be noted that the EU have recently imposed a fine of €200 million on Meta, of which the EU said that users must be provided with less intrusive advertising options, based only on basic data such as age, gender, and location.
