ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) held a consultation session today to discuss the Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) issue, at its headquarters with key stakeholders, a statement released by the authority said on Thursday.
The consultation session was focused on the registration and facilitation processes for VPNs. Attendees of the session included Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) CEO, Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) Chairman, Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA) CEO, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom (MoIT&T), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the statement said.
PTA has assured the attendees that it will ensure that legitimate VPN users are provided with data security and seamless internet access. This is especially in focus for the software houses, business processes outsourcing (BPO) firms, banks, embassies, and freelancers operating in the country.
The attendees shared suggestions for mechanisms to improve VPN registration while ensuring business continuity and secure internet services. P@SHA urged that PTA should provide sufficient time for VPN registration and consultation on unregistered VPNs to avoid disruption in the business activities, the statement by PTA said.
