PM Shehbaz inaugurates Pakistan’s new EV policy – HUM News

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated the New Energy Vehicle Policy for 2025–2030, calling it a significant step forward in the government’s journey towards a green revolution.

He said Pakistan is among the countries most affected by climate change, and the new policy is an important initiative in promoting eco-friendly measures.

Under the new policy, 30 per cent of all vehicles across the country will be converted to electric by 2030, while the number of charging stations will be increased to 3,000 nationwide.

The policy is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 4.5 million tons and save Rs538 billion in petroleum costs. Lower emissions will also bring positive impacts on public health.

Addressing the ceremony, the prime minister thanked all stakeholders and the British government for supporting the policy, adding that it would enable safe and environmentally friendly transportation.

He noted that while Pakistan contributes little to global greenhouse gas emissions, it faces severe consequences of climate change, including recent cloudbursts, flash floods, and river overflows that caused over 700 deaths along with significant financial and infrastructural losses.

Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain said the launch of the policy, in line with international standards, is the realization of a long-standing dream.

He stressed that under the prime minister’s vision, collective efforts have borne fruit, and Pakistan will present itself to the world as a clean and green nation.
