ISLAMABAD: Mobile and internet services across Pakistan have begun to experience widespread issues, with major cities, including Islamabad, being particularly affected. Numerous users have reported extremely slow internet speeds, with many unable to access various websites.
Complaints have also surfaced regarding difficulties in downloading images, audio, and documents through WhatsApp, the popular Meta-owned messaging platform.
Additionally, users of major telecom providers such as Mobilink, Ufone, Telenor, and Zong are encountering significant disruptions in making voice calls, with reports of distorted audio and frequent call drops. These issues extend not only to those using Wi-Fi for internet access but also to those relying on mobile data.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has yet to issue an official statement addressing the cause of these interruptions, and no clarification has been provided by the government regarding whether the reduced service is intentional or due to technical difficulties.
This service disruption coincides with the highly anticipated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) power show scheduled to take place today in the Kahna area of Lahore. Several sections of the motorway have already been closed, and further roadblocks are expected as the event draws near.
The district administration has granted PTI permission to hold its rally on Lahore’s Ring Road, Kahna, adhering to the high court’s directives. A no-objection certificate (NOC) was issued by the deputy commissioner, outlining 43 conditions for the event, including restricting the rally to a time frame of 3 pm to 6 pm.
With heavy traffic and diversions expected, it remains unclear whether commuters will be able to access Ring Road after 6 pm, as significant congestion is anticipated.
