New WhatsApp feature uses AI to summarise unread messages – HUM News

WEB DESK: Meta has officially introduced a new feature in WhatsApp that uses artificial intelligence to summarise unread messages. The tool, which was first spotted in testing a few weeks ago, is now available to users in the United States.

This new feature aims to make it easier for people to catch up on messages, especially in busy group chats. Instead of scrolling through dozens of texts, memes, or long conversations, users can now get a short, AI-generated summary that highlights the main points.

Summarising messages is one of the most practical uses of generative AI. It helps users quickly understand important updates, reminders, or discussions without spending too much time.

WhatsApp says the feature is private and secure. Neither Meta nor WhatsApp can see your messages or the summaries that are created.

The company also addressed concerns about privacy and user control. The message summaries feature is optional and turned off by default. Users can choose whether they want to enable it and can also select which chats are included using the Advanced Chat Privacy settings.

At the moment, the feature is only available in English and limited to users in the United States. WhatsApp says it plans to expand to more languages and regions later this year.
