Mobile screen replacements to become more expensive in Pakistan – HUM News

ISLAMABAD: Mobile phone repairs, which are already expensive in Pakistan, may become even costlier, particularly if you damage your screen. Replacing an LED screen is one of the most expensive repairs in the Pakistani mobile market.

For some flagship phones, the cost of replacing an LCD screen has reached as high as Rs150,000, but those were previous rates. Now, users of premium phones may face even higher costs for repairing a broken screen.

The Directorate General of Customs Valuation in Karachi has introduced new customs values on the import of mobile phone LCD screens from China and Hong Kong. According to a valuation ruling issued on Tuesday, the new Valuation Ruling (1979 of 2025) replaces the previous ruling (No. 1576/2021).

The values of these goods had not been revised since 2021. Following an analysis of import data, current market trends, and variations in prices, an assessment was conducted to determine the new customs values under sections 25 and 25A of the Customs Act, 1969.

Relevant stakeholders attended meetings for the valuation process and presented their perspectives on the matter. They were asked to provide import documents to support their claims. A thorough review of 90 days’ worth of data was conducted, and some references for declared values were available.

Based on this analysis, the transaction value of the specified goods has now been determined. The new customs values will serve as the basis for the assessment of duties and taxes, the ruling stated.
