WEB DESK: Tesla and X chief executive Elon Musk has publicly apologised for ongoing problems with X’s recommendation system, acknowledging user complaints over how posts appear on the platform.
In a post on X, Musk said he was aware of users’ frustrations with the algorithm and that his team was working to resolve the issues. “My apologies for frustrations with the algorithm. We are working hard to fix the problem,” he wrote.
Over recent weeks, many X users have reported seeing repetitive content, delayed updates and limited visibility for certain accounts. Some creators have also noted a sudden drop in engagement and reach, fuelling speculation that X may have made quiet changes to its feed-ranking system.

Efforts for transparency
Since acquiring Twitter in 2022 and rebranding it as X, Musk has often stressed the importance of algorithm transparency. Earlier this year, the platform open-sourced parts of its recommendation code, allowing users to see how posts are ranked, promoted or demoted.
Musk has previously said that X continually tweaks its algorithm to surface “useful and engaging” content while cutting down on spam or irrelevant material.
However, this latest round of complaints appears to have renewed concerns over how the system operates. While Musk did not provide details on the specific glitch or when users could expect a fix, his acknowledgement indicates that the engineering team is working on updates.
Musk’s rocky relationship with the algorithm
This is not the first time Musk has publicly criticised X’s feed system. In January, he jokingly lashed out at it, writing, “The recommendation algorithm on this platform sucks! I want to talk to the manager right now!!” In another post, he said, “If I see one more da*n Nazi salute in my feed, I’m gonna lose my mind. This algorithm sucks!!”
Those comments followed controversy over a viral video from Donald Trump’s inauguration, where Musk’s hand gestures drew online comparisons to Nazi salutes.
For now, users continue to wait for improvements, hoping that the next round of tweaks will bring back the more engaging and balanced feed Musk once promised.
