WEB DESK: Apple is now expected to introduce a total redesign of the MacBook Pro in 2026. Traditionally, Apple follows a four-year design cycle for the MacBook Pro series but now it looks like the M5 update will only focus on a chip upgrade with Mac users having to wait for at least 2026 for a bigger overhaul.
Mark Gurman wrote in a newsletter that “the MacBook Pro probably won’t get another true overhaul until 2026.”
Apple had initially aimed for 2025 for the next major redesign but delays related to display technology have pushed the release to 2026.
Apple is expected to transition to OLED displays in the next major MacBook Pro refresh, borrowing from the design of the new M4 iPad Pros. This upcoming MacBook Pro will also feature a “thinner design.”
Previously, Apple had made the MacBook Pros slightly thicker during the transition to Apple Silicon, but now it seems the company plans to reverse that decision. Hopefully, this won’t lead to any significant compromises.
Gurman also notes that the M6 chip will likely be built on a new 2nm process, offering new display technology, a redesigned form factor, and a substantial performance boost—all in one update.
For the 2025 MacBook Pro models, users can expect upgrades to the M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips, but no major changes beyond the chip improvements.
