What record can Babar Azam shatter in the Test series against Bangladesh? | The Express Tribune

Pakistan’s white-ball captain Babar Azam is on the verge of reaching a significant milestone in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

With 2,661 runs in the current ICC World Test Championship cycle, Babar is just 339 runs away from crossing the 3,000-run mark, a feat that would make him only the fifth player in the world to achieve this milestone.

Babar currently holds the record for the most runs by a Pakistani batter in this cycle.

If he reaches the 3,000-run mark, he will join an elite group of players, including England’s Joe Root, who leads with 4,598 runs in 55 matches, and Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne, who has 3,904 runs in 45 matches.

Other notable players on the list are Steve Smith with 3,486 runs, Ben Stokes with 3,101 runs, and Usman Khawaja with 2,686 runs.

Babar also stands above prominent Indian batsmen, with Rohit Sharma having scored 2,552 runs and Virat Kohli 2,235 runs in the World Test Championship.

As Babar prepares for the series against Bangladesh, all eyes will be on him to see if he can surpass this milestone and further solidify his place among the world’s top Test batsmen.
