Lahore: The Lahore Marathon concluded successfully today, featuring exceptional performances from athletes representing WAPDA and the Pakistan Army, who dominated the podium across multiple race categories.
The event, highly anticipated by the city’s sporting community, showcased a competitive field and highlighted the rising enthusiasm for long-distance running in Lahore.
In the half-marathon (21 km) category, Sohail Amir of WAPDA and Maria Bibi of the Pakistan Army emerged as the winners. The 10-kilometer race saw Akhtar Ali (WAPDA) and Farhat Bano (Army) claim victory.
Chief Coach Asghar Gul commended the flawless organization of the marathon, emphasizing its critical role in discovering new athletic talent. Participants called for the event to become an annual fixture in Lahore’s sports calendar.
The organizing body, Allied Bank, received accolades from Major General (Retd.) Muhammad Akram Sahi and Brigadier (Retd.) Wajahat Hussain for maintaining high standards. The generous prize money was also acknowledged as a motivating factor, elevating the prestige of the competition.
