Virat Kohli surpasses Sachin Tendulkar, reaches historic 14,000 ODI Runs
DUBAI: Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli etched his name in the record books once again, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar during India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan on Sunday.
Kohli became only the third cricketer in history to cross 14,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs), joining an elite club that includes Tendulkar and Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara.
The milestone was achieved in the 12th over of the match when Kohli played his signature cover drive, marking the feat in his 287th ODI innings.
Previously, he had a chance to reach the landmark during India’s tournament opener against Bangladesh but was dismissed for just 22 runs off 38 balls.
Despite Kohli’s early departure in that match, India secured a convincing five-wicket victory, thanks to a brilliant century from Shubman Gill. The Men in Blue successfully chased Bangladesh’s target of 229, reaching the total in 46.3 overs with four wickets down.
