Saudi Arabia takes FIFA to new heights with world’s first ‘sky stadium’
Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has announced ambitious plans to construct the world’s first “sky stadium” as part of its ongoing sports infrastructure transformation ahead of hosting the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
Dubbed the NEOM Stadium, the futuristic venue will reportedly be suspended 1,150 feet above ground level and powered entirely by wind and solar energy, reflecting the Kingdom’s drive toward sustainable and innovative megaprojects.
According to initial reports circulating on social media, the proposed design includes a 46,000-seat capacity, with construction expected to begin in 2027 and completion targeted for 2032.
The NEOM Stadium is expected to serve as a flagship venue for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, after Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 48-team tournament was formally accepted by FIFA.
While official confirmation from Saudi authorities regarding the “sky stadium” remains limited, the project aligns with NEOM’s vision to redefine urban living and entertainment infrastructure.
Earlier, Arab News reported that Saudi Arabia was investing heavily in sports and tourism infrastructure as part of its preparations for the 2034 World Cup, underscoring its commitment to becoming a global sporting destination.
If realized, the NEOM Sky Stadium would mark a historic first in global sports architecture, positioning Saudi Arabia as a pioneer in futuristic stadium design and sustainable event hosting.
