INDONESIA – Pakistan’s Shahzeb Khan clinched the gold medal in the -54kg weight category at the Asia Open Khyurogi Taekwondo Championship, defeating the Philippines’ Calamba in the final.
Calamba initially led the first round, scoring 11 points to Shahzeb’s six. However, Shahzeb bounced back in the second round with a 10-3 victory and sealed the win with an impressive 18-0 score in the third round, marking Pakistan’s first gold in the event.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Shahzeb overcame Indonesia’s Hidayat Tomakaka with scores of 12-14, 16-14, and a dominant 22-0 in the final round.
In the +87kg final, Hamza Saeed of Pakistan earned a silver medal, falling to Kazakhstan’s Kablan, who won with scores of 5-1 and a tie at 4-4.
Pakistan Olympic Association President Syed Abid Qadri, Secretary General Khalid Mahmood, Special Olympics Pakistan Chairperson Ronak Lakhani, Pakistan Taekwondo Federation President Col Waseem Janjua, and CEO Omar Saeed extended congratulations to both Shahzeb Khan for his gold and Hamza Saeed for his silver medal.
