COLOMBO: The championship match at the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) South Asian Under-12 Tennis event ended in a tie. Heavy rain forced the final between Pakistan and host Sri Lanka to be called off, so both teams were named joint champions.
The final started with a strong win for U12 Tennis champs. In the first singles game, Pakistan’s Rashid Ali easily beat Sri Lanka’s V. Vitanyurin in straight sets, scoring 5-4 and 4-0.
The second game was still going on between Pakistan’s Muhammad Shayan Afridi and Sri Lanka’s Amarasinghe. Both players had won one set each when the rain began. Since they couldn’t play anymore, officials decided to declare both countries as joint winners.
This is a big achievement for the Pakistan team, who had an amazing run in the tournament without losing any matches. They defeated teams from Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives, and even their long-time rival, India.
Thanks to their strong performance, Pakistan has also earned a spot in the ATF Under-12 Asian Event, which will take place in Singapore this August.
