The Pittsburgh Steelers have pulled off a high-profile trade, acquiring All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith from the Miami Dolphins.

In return, the Steelers are sending All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a late-round draft pick to Miami, multiple outlets reported Monday.

Ramsey confirmed the deal himself on X, writing: “Break my own news! #HereWeGo @steelers.”

The 30-year-old Ramsey, who signed a three-year extension in 2024, started all 17 games for Miami last season with 60 tackles, 11 passes defensed, and two interceptions.

As part of the move, the Steelers are giving him a $1.5 million raise in 2025, increasing his salary to $26.6 million.

Ramsey, a seven-time Pro Bowler, previously played for the Jaguars and Rams, and now joins a Steelers secondary that includes Joey Porter Jr and Darius Slay Jr.

Fitzpatrick, 28, heads back to the team that drafted him in 2018.

He spent just over a year in Miami before being traded to Pittsburgh in 2019. A five-time Pro Bowler himself, he recorded 96 tackles and one interception last season. He’s under contract through 2026.

Smith, 29, had a breakout campaign in 2024 with 88 receptions for 884 yards and eight touchdowns. A third-round pick by the Titans in 2017, he has also played for the Patriots, Falcons, and Dolphins.

The trade marks a major reshuffle for both franchises heading into the 2025 NFL season, with Pittsburgh strengthening both sides of the ball while Miami retools its defence.
