Cricket’s Return to the 2028 Olympics

The Olympics is the world’s most popular sporting event, and after 128 years, cricket is making its comeback. The qualification process for team participation will be finalized today.

The 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games will be historic and unique in many ways, as cricket one of the most beloved sports globally will re-enter the Olympic arena after more than a century.

In the cricket event at the Olympics, 6 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams will participate. The schedule and venues for the matches have already been announced. However, the qualification process for teams to compete in this sporting extravaganza has not yet been decided.

It is reported that during the upcoming ICC (International Cricket Council) meeting in Singapore, discussions will be held to establish the qualification framework.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to include 6 men’s and 6 women’s teams in the cricket event. The selection criteria for these teams will be determined by the ICC.

If team qualification is based on world rankings, the top 6 teams will qualify, which could pose a challenge for Pakistan, as both their men’s and women’s teams are currently ranked 8th. To secure a place, both teams will need to improve their rankings.

The Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 will mark the historic re-entry of cricket into the Olympic program. The last time cricket was played in the Olympics was in 1897.

The cricket matches are scheduled from July 12 to July 29, 2028. The medal matches will be held on July 20 and July 29. Each team men’s and women’s will have a squad of 15 players announced for the event.

All matches will be played at the temporary POMONA Stadium, located approximately 50 kilometers from Los Angeles in the city of Pomona. Matches will be held at 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM local time each day.
