Faisalabad, 23 September 2024: The Shaheen Afridi-led Lions have been penalized for a slow over-rate during their match against the Dolphins on September 22 in the Champions One-Day Cup. Despite suffering a narrow 16-run defeat, the Lions secured their spot in the tournament’s playoff stage.
The game took place at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, where the Dolphins successfully defended their total. The slow over-rate fine adds a disciplinary setback for the Lions as they prepare for the upcoming playoff matches.
“The Lions have been fined for slow over-rate in their September 22 game of Champions One-Day Cup against the Engro Dolphins,” the PCB’s press release stated.”

“All the eleven playing members of the Shaheen Shah Afridi-led team have been fined five per cent of their match fees as per article 2.22 of the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which deals with over-rate offences.”
Lions’ all-rounder Khushdil Shah delivered a powerful half-century, but Abbas Afridi’s calm performance in the final over led the Dolphins to a tense last-over victory.
In this pivotal match, the Lions, chasing 327, needed to surpass 260 runs to qualify for the playoff stage. They achieved this in the 47th over but ultimately fell 16 runs short, ending their innings at 310-8 after 50 overs.
The Lions will now take on the Stallions in Wednesday’s eliminator, while the Markhors and Panthers clash in Tuesday’s Qualifier.
