KARACHI: Anti-Corruption Court on Friday acquitted former prime minister and Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani and other co-accused in the multi-billion rupee Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) corruption cases

The court also decided to separate the cases of the absconding suspects.

“We reviewed each and every file,” the court remarked during the verdict. It noted that no money was found in Gilani’s accounts.

He was accused of allegedly receiving a bribe of 5 million rupees through an accused named Zubair.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had registered 26 cases related to the multi-billion rupee Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) scam.

Reacting to the decision, Gilani said, “All innocent people have been acquitted today.”

Gilani had already been acquitted in 12 previous TDAP-related cases.

The TDAP scam had made headlines in previous years for alleged misuse of export development funds and illegal subsidies. The acquittal marks a major relief for the former premier who consistently denied wrongdoing.
