KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to provide free electric scooters to women under the “Pink Scooties Programme”.
Chairing a meeting, Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon reviewed the details of the programme. The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zaman, Sindh Mass Transit Authority MD Kanwal Bhutto, and other officials.
Sharjeel Memon said that the provincial government, in a revolutionary step, would launch the facility for women and female students this week, making their daily commute easier.
“The scheme will not only save time and expenses but also provide women with a safe and dignified mode of travel,” he said.
He said that the programme was designed especially for women who rely on public transport for education, employment, or other needs.

“The Sindh Mass Transit Authority is compiling records of women and students applying, while the scooters will be allotted on the basis of merit and need,” he said.
The minister said that the government has developed a transparent and simple mechanism to ensure that as many women as possible can benefit from the scheme.
“The Sindh government wants women to be independent in every sphere of life, and this scheme will prove to be a positive step in that direction,” he said.
He urged female students and working women to take full advantage of the facility so they can actively pursue education, employment, and other activities.
Sources said that in the first phase of the project, 1,000 women will receive electric scooters, and all necessary arrangements have been finalized.
Earlier in May, Sharjeel Memon said that since taking over the management of the Green Line BRT project, its performance has improved significantly. Daily ridership has increased from 50,000 to 61,000, reflecting public trust and the success of the Sindh government’s policies, he said.
