‘We’re looking to America’ to help release Imran Khan: Kasim Khan – HUM News

ISLAMAABD: Kasim Khan, the younger son of imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan, has said that his father is being kept in “uninhabitable” and increasingly worsening conditions in jail, adding that hopes for his release now rest primarily with the United States.

In an interview with American media outlet, Real America’s Voice, Kasim said that his father and the former prime minister of Pakistan is being kept in “dire” prison conditions and that his health is deteriorating rapidly.

Kasim expressed deep concern over his father’s health, the conditions of his incarceration, and the lack of basic facilities in Adiala Jail, where the former premier has been held for over 18 months.

Imran Khan has been held in Adiala Jail since August 2023, serving a sentence in the £190 million corruption case, and facing several other charges under Pakistan’s anti-terrorism laws related to the May 9 protests.

Kasim said, “He [Imran Khan] is being targeted for political reasons, and this situation amounts to a grave violation of human rights.”

Kasim urged the international community, rights organisations, and global media to speak out against what he called politically motivated actions against Imran Khan.

The 26-year-old, who along with his brother Sulaiman Khan spoke publicly for the first time in May about their father’s imprisonment, added that they had recently met American lawmakers and officials, including former Trump aide Richard Grenell.

“Grenell kindly gave us time. I won’t go into details, but the meeting gave us hope,” Kasim said.

Kasim and Sulaiman not joining PTI’s protest

On Tuesday, Imran Khan clarified that his sons will not be coming to Pakistan to participate in the protest movement announced by his party.

Earlier, Aleema Khan – the sister of the incarcerated PTI leader – had told reporters that Imran Khan intended to lead a protest movement from jail against the 26th Amendment.

She had also claimed that his sons, Sulaiman and Qasim, would join the protest after returning from the United States.

However, during a court hearing at Adiala jail on Tuesday, where Imran Khan appeared along with his two lawyers, he was asked whether his sons, who had returned from the US to the UK, would take part in the August 5 protest. In response, he said, “No, they will not be coming for the protest.”
