RAHIM YAR KHAN: A wedding procession got stuck near Rahim Yar Khan due to road closures caused by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest rally.
The national highway has been closed for traffic on Sindh-Punjab border to prevent PTI protestors from marching towards the capital. A wedding procession on the same road also got caught in the political crosshairs and got stranded near Kot Sabzal area.
The procession was travelling from Bahawalnagar to Karachi with the new bride.
The family members of the wedding party implored the police to be allowed to pass through. “We have no connection with politics, let us go,” they said. However, due to the legal and security requirements, the law enforcement authorities could not agree to their requests.
PTI has announced a protest rally towards Islamabad today. Meanwhile, the federal government has raised security concerns and the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued orders for the authorities to maintain law and order at all costs.
As part of the nationwide efforts to maintain law and order, and to protect the citizens, roads have been closed for traffic, including roads leading to Karachi.
Citizens, including the said wedding party, is facing commuting difficulties due to the difficult political climate and the security risks.
