ISLAMABAD: Employees of the state-owned Utility Stores Corporation (USC) staged a protest in Blue Area, in Islamabad, against the potential closure of the stores.
A large number of employees participated in the demonstration, representing all three unions of the USC. During the protest, the employees announced plans to march towards D-Chowk later in the day.
They demanded an immediate halt to what they described as the “economic killing” of thousands of employees due to the closure of Utility Stores.
The employees also called for the reversal of the decision to privatise the utility stores, stating that the stores are not a burden on the government but rather a profitable entity.
According to the employees, USC generate Rs 2 billion in revenue for the government annually. They argued that instead of being a burden, the government itself is placing a burden on USC.
