WEB DESK: Three more animals have died at the Lahore Zoo includling a female springbok, a male Sindh ibex, and a female nyala antelope over the past week.
In the wake of these incidents, the zoo’s director, Zahid Iqbal, has been replaced, with Asim Bashir Cheema. Officials stated that nearly a dozen animals and birds have died at the facility over the past few months.
Upgradation of Lahore Zoo
Zoo authorities have cited climate change as a major factor contributing to the recent animal deaths while a team of veterinarians is currently examining the causes behind the fatalities.
In December 2023, then Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi had urged the relevant authorities to expedite the upgradation work at Lahore Zoo which also happens to be the largest zoo in Pakistan. He had instructed the zoo authorities to hasten the process of introducing new animals to enhance the overall experience for visitors.
