WEB DESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts cold and dry weather for most parts of the country on Sunday, with the northern areas to be particularly chilly. Clouds and fog are also predicted for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Upper Sindh in the morning and evening hours.

Going region by region, the PMD says that in Punjab, the weather will be cold and partly cloudy in most districts, and even more so towards the north in Murree, Galiyat and its surrounding areas. Fog and smog will prevail in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Kasur, Okara, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalnagar during the morning and night hours.
Likewise, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the weather will be cold and dry on Sunday, with the hilly areas to get even more frosty than usual. Light rain or even snowfall might also come down in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand and Kurram. Moreover, fog is expected at a few places in Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Nowshera, Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan in the morning.
In Sindh too, the weather is likely to remain cold and dry with Sukkur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Khairpur and surrounding areas staying enveloped in fog in the morning.
Balochistan will also get extremely cold today, says PMD. Partly cloudy skies are likely in Qila Abdullah, Pishin, Quetta, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah and Zhob.
Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will also get their share of extreme cold and partly cloudy skies. In Gilgit-Baltistan, light rain and snowfall is also on the cards for the weekend.
LAHORE’S AQI SHOWS NO SIGNS OF RESPITE
While a slight decrease has been observed in the intensity of cold in Lahore, the smog situation remains hazardous. On Sunday morning, the temperature in the provincial capital was recorded at 10 degrees, with early morning temperature dropping as low as 7 degrees.

The recorded AQI for Sunday was 292 in Lahore, which continues to be ranked second among the most polluted cities in the world.
