KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori on Tuesday announced that the “city of lights” will celebrate the New Year with full fanfare.
“We will welcome the New Year with joy and hope to see vibes of happiness in the city of lights,” he said in a statement.
As the celebratory hours are approaching, Tessor said that all arrangements and preparations including an outstanding stage and spectacular fireworks have been put in place to celebrate the New Year.
“A memorable concert will be held at the Governor’s House where Qawwal Afzal Sabri will perform to the tunes of music and drums.”
Earlier, the Punjab Environment Protection Agency completely banned any fireworks in Lahore on New Year’s eve.
A notification issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner, no fireworks will be allowed on the New Year.
He said that strict action will be taken against violators without any discrimination.
The notification has been issued due to persistent smog in the city and concern over air pollution.
Urging the public to cooperate, the Lahore deputy commissioner said the district administration was actively working to combat smog.
