KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar has raised concerns over the discriminatory relief in electricity tariffs provided exclusively to Punjab, stating that Karachi, which contributes the most in taxes, is being unfairly treated.
He emphasised that the people of Sindh are equally deserving of relief and described the selective benefit to Punjab as an act of discrimination.
Sattar pointed out that Karachi residents often face discriminatory practices and stressed the need for relief for both citizens and industries in the city. He highlighted that electricity rates have seen a continuous increase of Rs3 to Rs5 per unit in every bill, further burdening the people of Karachi.
The former MQM leader warned that the escalating inflation and heavy electricity bills are driving people to the brink of desperation, with some even contemplating suicide.
He also criticised the additional burdens being imposed on Karachi’s electricity consumers instead of providing them with much-needed relief.
