RAWALPINDI: Punjab government on Friday has imposed section 144 in Rawalpindi for eight days due to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit being held in Islamabad from October 15-16.
The government has declared a three-day public holiday in Islamabad and Rawalpindi from October 14 to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
With the imposition of section 144 in Rawalpindi, a ban has been imposed on pillion riding, aerial firing, political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, and protests within the city limits.

Additionally, the use of drones, laser lights, and pigeon flying has also been prohibited, according to an official notification. The restrictions will remain in effect until October 17.
The government stated that the decision was made to ensure the safety and security of citizens. Law enforcement personnel are exempted from these restrictions, as per the notification.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has asked all the government hospitals in Rawalpindi to remain alert. According to a letter to the hospitals, the Punjab Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department said that the federal government asked them to make these arrangements ahead of the SCO moot.
