Runners from across Pakistan come together for Karachi marathon – HUM News


KARACHI: World-class marathon has kicked off in Karachi. Runners from across Pakistan are participating in the competition that began from Nishan Pakistan venue at Karachi Sea View.

The preparations made for the marathon got approval and commendation from athletes from all over the world. Earlier, groups from Islamabad and Quetta reached Karachi to participate in marathon.

The competition includes full marathon, half marathon, 10km relay and 5km fun race. A shake-out run for runners will also be held before the long run in Karachi Marathon.

The runners participating in Karachi Marathon are supporting runners’ charity.

Strict security arrangements have been made for the marathon as well.

Participants from outside the country are also running in Karachi Marathon. According to the organisers, runners of all ages have come from Australia, Poland, Germany and Japan among other countries.

CEO of the company ‘Sports in Pakistan’, Shoaib Nizami, spoke to media ahead of the marathon and called it “a pivotal moment in Karachi’s sporting calendar”.

He said, “[Karachi’s] marathon route has been officially certified by World Athletics, ensuring a world-class experience for participants.”

He informed that state-of-the-art timing equipment has been bought for this marathon to ensure accurate records for finish times. This will eliminate any possibility of human error and will guarantee that the competition is transparent and fair for the participants.

“Every winner of the Karachi Marathon can claim international champion status, paving the way for participation in any international marathon,” Nizami said.
