Rockfall halts Jaglot-Skardu Road for second time in week – HUM News


GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority issued a travel advisory for the Jaglot-Skardu Road (JSR) after it was blocked due to heavy rockfall near Shangus locality of Rondu area in Skardu.

According to the authority, the Jaglot-Skardu Road is blocked on both sides near Shangus due to heavy rockfall and mudslide, resulting in the suspension of all kinds of traffic.

Assistant Director GB DMA, Haroon Gul, said that a clearance party has reached the site from Shahtot and is working rapidly to restore the road. However, the restoration work has been suspended for the night.

“The remaining work will be resumed early in the morning so that it can be completed in a safe and effective manner,” he added.

The GB DMA has requested the public to cooperate and avoid unnecessary travel. Passengers have been advised to avoid travel until the road is fully restored to prevent any unpleasant incidents.

The authority also advised passengers to follow announcements by local administration and concerned authorities for further information.

The road was reopened on Tuesday after three days of blockage due to heavy rockfall near Shahtot locality of Rondu area in Skardu on Saturday, causing difficulties for residents.
