QUETTA: An anti-terrorism court in Quetta on Wednesday approved a 10-day extension in the physical remand of Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai, a key suspect in the murder of a woman and a man for “honour”.
The hearing took place at Anti-Terrorism Court No-1 in Quetta, where the police produced Satakzai before the judge.
Granting the police’s plea, the court handed over the accused to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing for further investigation.
Speaking informally to reporters outside the court, Satakzai said, “Let the investigation conclude — I will speak with God as my witness.” Police officials then stopped him from speaking further.
It is worth noting that three days before Eidul Azha, Bano Satakzai and Ehsanullah Smalani were brutally killed in broad daylight in Degari, a suburban area of Quetta.
A video of the incident went viral on social media a few days ago after which police arrested several suspcts.
The case was registered at the Hanna Urak Police Station on the complaint of the SHO. Police have since arrested the main suspect, Bashir Ahmed, as well as the head of the Satakzai tribe, Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai, four of his brothers, two guards, and several other suspects.
According to the complainant, the victims — Bano Satakzai and Ehsanullah Smalani — were murdered on charges of “karo-kari” (‘honour killing’).
The complainant alleged that individuals including Shah Wazir, Jalal, Tikri Munir, Bakhtiyar, Malik Amir, Ajab Khan, Jan Muhammad, Bashir Ahmed, and 15 unidentified persons, were involved in the murder.
The complainant stated that the woman and man were presented before Sardar Sherbaz Khan, who declared them guilty of “karo-kari” and ordered their execution. They were then transported in vehicles to Degari and shot dead.
Chief Minister Bugti, during a press conference earlier, said the slain woman and man were not related, and both were separately married and each had five children.
