LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to reopen schools after summer break for higher classes above grade 9, including O and A level classes, from August 18, according to provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.
Earlier the Punjab government had extended summer vacations in all public and private schools across the province until August 31 due to ongoing weather conditions.

Earlier, schools were expected to reopen in the second week of August, but parents and teachers had raised concerns over the extreme heat, prompting authorities to reconsider.

The Punjab government had announced early summer vacations on May 20 for schools across the province due to the extreme heatwave.
Teachers and parents had expressed concern that due to the extensive syllabus for grade 9, 10 and intermediate classes, it would become hard for the students to complete it on time if vacations were extended.
In view of this, the Punjab government has decided to revise its previous decision.

Schools for junior classes will reopen from September 1, according to the new plan.
