Punjab reports first polio case of 2025 from Mandi Bahauddin – HUM News


LAHORE: Punjab’s first polio case for the calendar year 2025 has emerged from Mandi Bahauddin district, Punjab Anti-Polio Program spokesperson said on Friday.

The virus has been confirmed in the blood samples of an eight-year-old girl, who is a resident of Malakwal tehsil. The spokesperson said that the girl had a stroke on February 10. She was taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where the district health team carried out her examination.

The girl’s tests were then sent to the National Laboratory on February 14, where the virus was confirmed, the spokesperson said.

According to the initial reports, the girl suddenly developed fever, and then developed weakness in both legs.

Third polio case of 2025 detected in Sindh

The Anti-Polio Team officials are checking the girl’s record of polio drops and vaccinations.

Earlier, in 2024, a polio case was reported in Punjab from Chakwal. This recent case comes after five months of the last reported case from the province.

The Anti-Polio Program chief told media that excellent coverage was achieved during the February’s anti-polio vaccination campaign in Punjab.

A complete investigation of the polio case is being carried out, said the head of the polio eradication program.
