Punjab PDMA issues alert for 11th monsoon spell – HUM News


LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert ahead of the 11th spell of monsoon rains expected from September 16 to 19.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, rains are predicted in the upper reaches of rivers during this period, raising the possibility of flooding. PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said that, in view of the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directives, commissioners, deputy commissioners, and other relevant officials across the province have been placed on alert.

Instructions have also been issued to departments including Health, Irrigation, Construction and Communications, Local Government, and Livestock to remain prepared for any emergency situation.

Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures in view of the expected weather conditions. DG PDMA urged people to avoid gathering near rivers and recreational activities in vulnerable areas. He further advised the public to stay in safe places during storms and to avoid unnecessary travel.

In case of emergency, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.

ELECTRICITY BILL RELIEF ANNOUNCED FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

The federal government has waived electricity bills for flood-affected areas and announced refunds for those who have already paid.

Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the “timely and people-friendly” decision, saying the waived bills and refunds would be implemented immediately. Earlier, the PM ordered power distribution companies to stop collecting August 2025 bills from consumers in flood-hit regions.

A statement from the PM’s Office said that after finalising matters with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a detailed relief package would be announced. The premier said that those who had already paid their August bills would see the amounts adjusted in the coming month.

He said floods had affected millions across the country and the government would “continue all-out rescue and rehabilitation efforts until every displaced person returns home.”
