LAHORE: The Punjab Government on Saturday designated six hospitals to treat patients affected by the mpox virus.
The Punjab Health Department has written a letter to the designated hospitals, instructing them to set up isolation wards for suspected mpox patients. Each hospital has also been directed to appoint a focal person for mpox.
The designated hospitals include Benazir Hospital in Rawalpindi, Allied Hospital in Faisalabad, Allama Iqbal Hospital in Sialkot, Nishtar Hospital in Multan, and Bahawal Victoria Hospital in Bahawalpur.
Mpox symptoms usually appear within a period of fifteen days, if felt, stay quarantined, and take syrups normally used for fever.

Earlier today, Prime Minster (PM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to launch mpox awareness campaign.
An emergency meeting regarding mpox was held today at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad. During the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that the World Health Organisation has declared mpox a Public Health Emergency.
