LAHORE: A security guard, initially detained on suspicion of sexually assaulting a student at Punjab College, has been released after investigators determined that the allegations could not be substantiated.
Police reports on Thursday confirmed that the guard was taken into custody from Sargodha after accusations of rape were levelled by students. However, following an extensive investigation, authorities concluded that there was insufficient evidence to support the claims, resulting in the guard’s release.

In response to the alleged incident, the Lahore police registered a case at the Harbanspura police station against 200 to 250 unidentified students and others for their involvement in acts of vandalism and arson. The charges come after protesters, angered by the reported rape, damaged property and set motorcycles ablaze in protest.
The situation quickly escalated as students and unknown individuals took to the streets, expressing their outrage over the alleged assault. The protest turned violent, with some demonstrators reportedly attacking police officers with petrol bombs and torching vehicles, including those belonging to six college employees, according to the First Information Report (FIR).
So far, authorities have arrested 24 individuals believed to be involved in the unrest and are working to identify additional suspects who participated in the violent acts.
