KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared a public holiday across the province on Saturday, August 9, to mark the 282nd annual Urs of Sufi poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
A formal notification announcing the public holiday in Sindh has been issued.

According to Sindh Culture Secretary Muhammad Khan Kalhoro, the three-day Urs celebrations will begin on August 9, with preparations already completed.

The provincial culture minister has also invited the Sindh governor to attend the opening ceremony. Thousands of devotees, scholars, and admirers of Shah Latif are expected from across the country.
The Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad has banned the display of weapons during the Urs to ensure a peaceful environment.
The Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is held every year at his shrine in Bhit Shah. It is one of Sindh’s most significant spiritual and cultural festivals, featuring Sufi music, recitations of Kalam-e-Latif, literary gatherings, and special prayers, all promoting a message of love, peace, and tolerance.
