PTI’s anti-army chief protest in UK turns into a flop show


LONDON: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest organised against the Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir in UK failed to attract a significant crowd.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, who is on a visit to UK to attend the 7th Regional Stabilization Conference, being held at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was attending the event on the invitation of British Chief of General Staff General Roland Walker.

The protest call was given by PTI founder Imran Khan, who had asked his followers to come and register their protest outside the Pakistani High Commission in London against the government and the army chief.

However, the PTI failed to mobilize a large number of people as per their anticipation, and only a handful of people ranging from 70 to 100 people showed up, making the protest largely ineffective.

No prominent PTI leader was present to deliver speeches or lead the crowd, except for Shahzad Akbar, according to UK-based journalist Safina Khan

Despite PTI claims that they enjoy the support of a large number of Pakistanis in the UK, the turnout remained low.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir had received a grand welcome during his visit to the United Kingdom, marking a key moment in Pakistan-UK relations.

On the first day of his visit, he was given a warm reception and honored with a Guard of Honour at the historic Royal Horse Guards Parade ground.

In a symbolic gesture of friendship, the British military band played Pakistan’s national anthem, highlighting the strong ties between the two nations.
