PTI to challenge 26th constitutional amendment in court: Shoib Shaheen – HUM News

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Shoib Shaheen on Thursday said that their party has decided to challenge the 26th constitutional amendment in the court.

Speaking on the constitutional bench, he told a private TV channel that the by-product of the 26th constitutional amendment itself cannot make the course correction of the amendment.

Speaking on the newly appointed Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, Shaheen said, “We have no issue with Justice Yahya’s appointment; however, the CJP position is offered only to the senior most judge, therefore, we will submit a plea to the court to hear a full court case on this matter.”

He said that if the 26th constitutional amendment is withdrawn, the chief justice’s appointment notification may also be withdrawn.

The PTI leader said that it was the decretion of the special parliamentary committee, especially its eight members, who had to give a verdict and they did so too. He added, “It was our equal right too to sit in the committee.”

Shoib also hinted at becoming a part of a judicial commission on the matter.
