ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has announced that his party will not participate in the emergency meeting of the special parliamentary committee on the constitutional amendment.
Barrister Gohar said that while PTI will not attend tomorrow’s meeting, the party has not officially boycotted the special committee altogether.
An emergency meeting of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Amendment has been scheduled for tomorrow at 12:30pm. It was originally planned for Thursday at 3pm.
Gohar explained that the PTI leadership is not available in Islamabad, which is why they will not take part in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Law Minister Nazeer Tarar criticized PTI for not giving any input in the previous seven meetings of the special committee.

In a post on the social networking site X, Tarar said that those opposing the proposed constitutional amendment have failed to highlight a single provision that violates any fundamental or human rights, public interest, the spirit of the constitution, or the independence of the judiciary.
He said that the 26th constitutional amendment is being viewed through the lens of partisan politics, as PTI has yet to provide a single suggestion or proposal in the committee’s previous meetings.
The law minister said that some individuals appear uninterested in easing the hardships of thousands of prisoners and fail to recognize the importance of giving Parliament its rightful place, a fundamental requirement in any democratic parliamentary system.
