ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said that his party has reached a consensus on constitutional amendment with Jamiat-e-Ulema Islamam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Talking to the media along with party leaders after meeting with the JUI-F chief in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar said: “We had a meeting today with Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Our discussions on the constitutional amendment have been ongoing. We, along with BNP, MWM and the Sunni Ittehad Council, had an extensive consultation with Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the amendment.”
He said that a joint action plan with Maulana was being developed. “As per the instructions of the PTI founder, we’ve been conducting these meetings. Yesterday, we reached the conclusion that we will form a consensus. Today, our discussions with Maulana continued at length.”
He added, “The special committee of the parliament has also approved a draft. Yesterday, we concluded that an agreement had been reached. Today, we received the government’s fourth draft, which we reviewed clause by clause. Discussions are still ongoing, and we hope to reach an agreement soon. We have reached a mutual understanding with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and the same draft was approved by the special committee after consulting with him.”
Barrister Gohar said, “they will file an application with the government with PTI founder Imran Khan and we hope to meet him tomorrow.”
He said that although a meeting was held with Bilawal Bhutto at Fazlur Rehman’s residence, they did not discussion the draft during the meeting. “We will make the final announcement after receiving instructions from the PTI founder,” he said.
